Distance: 7.2 miles. Elevation: 1025 ft.
Just a quick blog post this time. Before leaving Cornimont I wanted to take a short ride up to revisit Notre Dame de la Paix (Our Lady of Peace), the massive statue that overlooks the town from on high.
I last saw her two and a half years ago. See here for more details of that visit:
On this latest visit to the area, I noticed she has changed colour from a sort of verdigris to gold. Unfortunately, she no longer seems to be illuminated at night.
I took my gravel bike and used ‘normal’ bike shoes with SPD cleats because I knew I’d be walking on gravel.
The climb was steeper than I’d remembered (8-9%), further evidence that I’m just not s fit as I was back then. The GT Grade proved useful on the gravel path down to the statue. It was still too steep to ride the final few metres but my normal shoes were much better than the shoes I wore last time.
I’ll let the photos tell the rest
